Building a Better World

The New Dawn Center provides individualized instruction to preschool and elementary level students. Tailored to the specific needs and abilities of each child, New Dawn offers a unique learning experience that promotes self-esteem, creativity and respect. Our Montessori-based development program is designed to stimulate all the senses while providing a curriculum richly integrated with the arts and sciences.

Since 1986, New Dawn has helped hundreds of students acquire a lifelong love of learning, express their unique abilities, and contribute positively to their community and the world at large.

New Dawn alumni transition to other school settings with confidence in their creative, leadership and interpersonal skills. These attributes are vital in bringing the spirit of peace and tolerance to our increasingly complex world. At New Dawn, we strive to help build a better world... one child at a time.

"Free the child's potential and you will transform him and the world." -- Dr. Maria Montessori

Securing New Dawn's Future

New Dawn plays a crucial role in Cambria's educational system. It is the only alternative to the town's severely overcrowded grammar school. It's preschool is currently the longest running in Cambria and, through a small scholarship fund, has been able to serve a limited number of the community's low-income population. Additional support would allow New Dawn to provide youngsters with this ever-important service.

There is an urgent need to ensure New Dawn's future and broaden its scope of service to Cambria's children. An endowment fund has been established with the goal of raising $500,000. The fund will be managed by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages the endowment assets of smaller charitable groups. Interest accruing from the Endowment Fund's principal will ensure staff salaries, scholarships for low-income students, and enable the school to share learning strategies with other educators.

"When I first walked into the New Dawn classroom, I had no doubt that Cambria would be the perfect home for my family" -- Brad Dechter, New Dawn Parent
