States from Russia at age 8. She spoke only Russian, and had no school
experience and developmentally was much more like a 4 or 5 year old child.
Her desire to learn and obvious intelligence has been nourished at the New
Dawn. One year later, she speaks fluent English and is learning to read,
write, research and work with numbers. She has been allowed to explore
preschool readiness concepts and begin formal studies at her own natural
pace. Her uniqueness has been celebrated which has contributed to her ever
growing emotional stability and self confidence. Her creativity and thirst
for stimulation keeps her teachers hopping, which they do with delight and
dedication. I cannot imagine another educational environment that would have
given her the well deserved chance to blossom and grow."
"When my son was in the first
grade at a public school he was informed by his teacher that he was a 'bad
boy.' He believed her and continued his 'active' behavior. Since this cycle
was not conducive to any type of learning, I felt there had to be an
alternative. Thanks to a scholarship to the New Dawn, he was able to attend
that school for 2 years. Not only was he learning academics, but he was
learning to feel good about himself. He was learning that he was special and
had something to offer the world. Learning that other people had gifts of
their own helped him have empathy towards other people. He is 13 now and
doing well at the local junior high. He has a very strong self-esteem and I
am sure his days at the New Dawn helped to get him on the right track."
